Bears join militants to

RAJOURI, July 14: Once facing the fear of militancy, the residents of upper villages in Mandi and Loran areas near Line of Control in Poonch district are now confronted with another alarming threat and that is the rampaging wild animals with the result life of about 10,000 is at risk.
Loran and Mandi areas in Poonch district was once hot bed of militants. Most of the infiltration attempts are also being reported from this side of Line of Control but residents are not facing any serious threat from the militants but there is more dangerous enemy waiting to kill them in the forests of upper reaches of these areas.
These wild animals have terrorized thousands of residents living in the area with most of the people preferring to stay inside their houses. Though local people have approached police, no wild life teams have been deputed in the area to overpower these wild animals.
Sources said that most of the wild animals making entry in the human populated areas are wild bear and leopards.
Sources said that a local boy who was on way to his school to appear in examination at Mandi was attacked by a bear near Aria village injuring him badly. The bear however run away when the locals raised alarm and started to shout loudly near the incident site.
The victim has been identified as Fazal Ahmad son of Mohammad Akram resident of Arai village.
He was hospitalized in Sub District Hospital Mandi where his treatment is going on.
This is not a first case when the wild animals have attacked human beings in the area residents said that there are more than one dozen such cases already happened in the area. "These wild animals are wandering in the human populated areas and there are every possibility of major human loss in future if these wild animals are not restricted to forests", residents of Mandi said. They added that though they have already informed the authorities yet no wild life official has visited the area to access the situation. "People are facing terror of wild animals and administration is not serious in the safety and security of the locals", a resident Mohammad Altaf said adding that if there will be any untoward incident, administration will be responsible for that.
Incharge Block Medical Officer Mandi Dr Riyaz Ahmed confirmed that a bear bite case was reported in the hospital.
When contacted, Station House Office (SHO), Police Station Mandi Javed Malik confirmed the report that some wild animals have been seen wandering in the human populated areas.
"I had earlier informed wild life authorities and also forwarding message to the authorities regarding the same", SHO said.
