Forces told to retaliate if Pak troops target border posts | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 14: Army, guarding the LOC, and the BSF deployed on the International Border in Jammu and Kahmir have been told to take effective measures for checking infiltration of militants from across the border. Official sources said that these instructions were issued after groups of militants made repeated infiltration bids during the last one month. Once the Army authorities received reports that large groups of militants had been brought on the launching pads across Kupwara, Keran, Machil, Tangdhar, Poonch, Rajouri, R S Pura, Akhnoor, Samba and Pargwal, instructions have been given to the troops to open fire whenever they spotted any movement on the border. According to sources, the troops and the BSF have been told to plug unconventional infiltration routes because during the last one month number of militants had been assisted by the professional border smugglers and guides in sneaking into Jammu and Kashmir from these unconventional routes. Sources said that the troops and the BSF have been directed to retaliate with equal measures in case the Pakistani forces resorted to unprovoked firing on the Indian border posts and pickets for carving out passage for the infiltrators. Agencies across the border have come to believe that the current turmoil in Kashmir was an ideal time for pushing into the valley groups of militants so that the present unrest and violence register further upswing resulting in political and constitutional crisis in the troubled state. Reports said that the recent incidents of border violations by the Pakistani Rangers on the International Border and the troops on the LOC were part of the plan of facilitating ingress process for the militants. The recent incidents of firing by the Pak troops in Pargwal area of Jammu, in which two BSF soldiers were killed, and the recent exchange of fire between the militants and the troops, in which two senior Army officers were killed, also indicated that agencies across the border were trying to foment bigger trouble in Jammu and Kashmir which could warrant intervention by a third country or would force Delhi to resolve the dispute through negotiations with Islamabad. In the meantime, the intelligence agencies in Kashmir have been asked to intensify their operations against Hurriyat leaders. |
