Infrastructural development vital to streamline transport system: Shabir

JAMMU, July 14: Modernization and up-gradation of infrastructure is vital for streamlining the transport system in the state and government is making all efforts to provide best facilities to the people, this was stated by the Minister of State for Power, Transport Forest and CA&PD, Shabir Khan during an inspection of ongoing construction work of Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Transport Nagar, Narwal, Jammu which is expected to be made functional by the end of July. Minister said this is an ambitious project which will help check traffic congestion in Jammu city and develop it on modern lines to cater to the needs of the commuters.
During the inspection, the Minister was apprised that the ISBT having three yards would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 2.86 crore. The ISBT will have idle parking place for 130 buses, active parking for 33 buses, private car parking for 50 vehicles, parking facility for 85 two wheelers, 75 auto Rickshaws and Taxi parking for 75 vehicles.
Earlier, while inspecting the Regional Transport Office, Minister said that the new complex will be made functional soon and asked for proper management of the records on the office.
He inspected the various sections and interacted with the staff who apprised him about their problems. He said that shortage of staff and adequate space in the premises are posing problem at the service end and assured all necessary steps will be taken to redress the problems of the staff and public. He said that computerization work will also be completed soon to make the system more transparent and hassle free for the public.
Minister also took stock of the ongoing works of the new RTO Complex at Narwal and asked the concerned officers to complete the project on time so that atleast some sections can be shifted to the new building He also met the representatives of ware house federation who apprised the minister of their problems .They said that ware house is the major supply center of essential commodities in Jammu and power cuts are causing problems for the traders. The Minister directed the concerned officers to check the unscheduled power cuts in the area. He also sanctioned two mast lights for the area.
Minister was accompanied by Deputy Transport Commissioner, Chief Engineer M&RE, RTO Jammu and other senior officers of the concerned departments.
