Fresh batch of around 9,000 leave for Amarnath | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, July 14: About 9,000 pilgrims left Baltal and Pahalgam base camps today for the holy Amarnath cave shrine. According to sources 8760 yatris today left for Amarnath Cave shrine for darshan of natural Shivlingam. Out of 8760 pilgrims , 3963 yatris comprising 2725 males , 907 females ,136 children and 195 sadhus left from Pahalgam base camp while 4797 comprising 3065 male, 1385 female , 341 children and 6 sadhus left from Baltal Base camp. So far, about 1.75 lakh yatris have had darshan of the ice Shivlingam since the commencement of the pilgrimage on July 1. Twelve pilgrims hence, however, died due to cardiac arrest during the pilgrimage till now. According to official sources, despite inclement weather conditions, about 4000 pilgrims left for the holy shrine this morning. They will stay for a night at Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on this traditional route. Another batch of about 5,000 pilgrims also left for the holy cave this morning from Baltal base camp, an official said. He said the pilgrims will reach the cave shrine this afternoon after covering a distance of 13 km.
