Soz loyalists upset over allegations leveled by dissidents | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 15: The Congress high command is said to have taken a serious notice of the activities of the dissidents in the state unit of the party which had the potential of not only weakening the organisation in Jammu and Kashmir but also casting shadow on the functioning of the coalition Government. Party sources said that the recent allegations levelled by the dissidents that a senior party leader had not been invited by the PCC Chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz, to the All Party meeting convened by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, in Srinagar on July 12 were baseless. They said that the said leader was supposed to be the deputy host of the meeting. Another senior Congress leader said that the leader about whom these dissidents are grumbling had informed the Government that he would be able to attend the meeting if a chopper was made available for him to fly from Jammu to Srinagar. He said the Government had made the offer but he and his fellow travellers, including Abdul Gani Vaki, who was supposed to attend the July11 meeting of the legislators of the Congress and the National Conference also had deliberately stayed away in order to create a wrong impression about the PCC Chief. The Congress leaders loyal to Saif-ud-Din Soz, blamed the union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, for patronising and encouraging the dissidents without realising that the anti-party activities being carried out by the dissidents could weaken the congress and create misunderstandings between the party and the National Conference. They said that by staying away from the two meetings the dissidents had been encouraged to even challenge the party high command which has decided to continue its support to Omar Abdullah led Government. Another congress leader said that details on the activities of the dissidents had been conveyed to the party high command and as part of their strategy to cover up their mistakes the dissidents had started launching a campaign against the loyalists in general and against Soz in particular. He said that the party high command had instructed the dissidents to work in cooperation with Soz and the way the dissidents were trying to challenge the leadership of Soz were simply challenging the party high command. The loyalists wanted the party high command to initiate stern measures so that dissidents were not able to indulge in anti-party activities and if it was not done the congress will get weakened in the state and the National Conference leadership may seek benefit from the divided Congress. |
