| Common Kashmiri worst hit by present turmoil | | Himalayan Features | | Ashwani Early Times Report Jammu, July15: With the ongoing turmoil putting normal life out of gear in Kashmir valley, the common man who has been caught between devil and the deep sea is worst sufferer of the present unrest in the valley. The economy of the valley which has already suffered a huge loss in 20 year long turmoil, has suffered an additional loss of Rs. 15 crore in the ongoing turmoil according to official figures. This loss will increase further if the strike continues in valley. The common Kashmiri who is worst hit sees no way out to get rid of the present crisis. The people are so scared that nobody dares to come forward and oppose the daily bandhs and strikes. " we are ourselves perturbed and do not know what to do", said a senior citizen in Srinagar. The situation is becoming day by day critical and though people are fed up of bandhs and strikes but no one misters the courage to speak against it openly in public. Pleading anonymity he said, if anyone comes forward and asks people to defy bandh calls he will be dubbed as government agent by separatists and has to face the consequences. So no one dares to come forward and oppose the strikes. Moreover the Government has also failed maintain a link with masses, he said, adding the promises made in last Assembly elections have not been fulfilled. Elaborating this Ghulam Rasool of down town Srinagar said that development works are stand still in Kashmir valley in general and Srinagar in particular. The Government has lost contact with masses totally, he added. He said there was no government in the state after Late Bakshi Ghulam Mohammed which has contact with masses. There can be many causes for present unrest in valley said Gh. Mohammed of Ganderbal. The growing unemployment among the youth of the valley can be one reason. The previous Government led by Gh. Nabi Azad has made promises with adhoc and contractual employees to regularize their services, but this promise was not kept later. Similarly there is a big chunk of unemployed youth hankering for jobs in valley but no body bothers for them. Abdul Rehman Wagay of Baramullah who supported these views said no steps were taken to boost the industrialization in valley. The leather factory and Match Factory which were established during Maharaja's time in Kashmir and providing employment to many people were closed after people's Government came to power in the state. He said same is the fate of joining Mill at Pampore and HMT Factory at Zainakote, Srinagar. the government does not bother to revive them to provide employment to people, he added. the desperate youth thus has fallen a prey in the hands of anti-social elements who pay them for stone pelting. The people in srinagar city face shortage of basic amenities of life, said Mohd. ramzan of Bemina; there is a cute water scarcity and power crisis in many parts of the city but Government has failed to redress the same, he added. Moreover, the central Government should take the genuine intellectuals of Kashmir who are linked to masses into confidence in settling the issue instead of depending upon those who have no knowledge of the problem, he added. |
