Over 2000 pilgrims leave for Amarnath yatra

Jammu, July 15: Fifteenth batch of 2,102 yatris today left Yatri Niwas base station, at Bhagwati Nagar here this morning for holy cave shrine of Amarnath.
A total of 2,102 Amarnath pilgrims, including 1,451 males, 439 females, 171 Sadhus and 41 children, proceeded towards respective yatra base camps at Nunwan, Pahalgam and Baltal in the Valley under tight security cover.
Escorted by a security vehicle, a convoy of 66 vehicles, including 35 State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses, 11 private passenger buses and 20 Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs), left the Yatri Niwas. The two-month-long Amarnath pilgrimage, which commenced on July 1, is going on smoothly, sources said, adding that administration has made all arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the yatra.
As many as 50 companies of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had been deployed to ensure security for yatris during the 55-day-long pilgrimage.
