EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 15: Okaya Power Group (OPG), renowned for its forte in innovative techniques, has now forayed into the branded mobile phone battery segment with the launch of its brand "Joos"- lithium (LiON) mobile phone batteries that will be compatible with all the popular branded handsets & smart phones in the market.
With this, the company is all set to focus on the huge replacement mobile battery segment. After extensive research and market survey, Okaya realized a huge demand and supply gap existing in the market for reliable mobile phone batteries.
To address this gap, Okaya, ventured into the Branded Mobile Phone Battery business, a concept that was unknown hitherto.
Joos batteries have features like built-in protection circuit modules (PCM), preventing over-charging, over-current and short circuit. Along with this, it has long standby time and low self discharge rate.
Also, over the years, the quality and composition of batteries has evolved, giving way to the new generation Lithium-Ion batteries that are more environmental friendly than the earlier generation Nickel batteries.
On the occasion, Rajesh Gupta, Co-founder and Director of Okaya Power Ltd, said "The mobile usability is increasing day by day; consequently maturing the battery replacement market too. But the penetration of branded mobile battery is very low and also expensive. Apart from these, 95% of the product availability is in the grey market with no standard quality. So realizing the huge demand and supply gap existing in the market for reliable batteries, we decided to foray into the Branded Mobile Battery segment with launching Joos in the market."
In the near future, the company plans to broaden its portfolio by diversifying into laptop batteries, camcorders, and digital cameras/equipments as well.
Anticipating the growth, we have put up dedicated world class manufacturing unit for portable power products, added Gupta. The product is available in wide range, suitable for mostly all kinds of mobile phones. The prices range from Rs 295 to Rs 995 based on various mobile phone models.
