Dogra rulers encourage Urdu in J&K: Prof Malik | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 15: For promotion of Urdu in the state, various points were discussed by Prof. Shohali Inayat Malik, head department of Urdu, university of Jammu with minister for higher education, Abdul Gani Malik here today. Prof Malik who called on the minister here today said during Dogra rulers urdu language flourished in the state, as Maharaja Pratap Sing granted urdu the official status, but after independence urdu language was ignored by the successive state government. He urged upon the minister steps be taken to encourage the language in making it compulsory upto class 10th. He also suggested that all sign board in government offices be written in urdu, beside special training be given to those IAS and KAS Officers who does not know language. He also demanded that on the pattern of Maulana Azad urdu university be established in the J&K State. Writers writing in urdu be given special financial assistance for publishing their books etc. As per press release minister Malik gave patience hearing and gave assurance that the government would do its best to restore the lost glory of the language in the state.
