NC-Cong battle over Loran BSNL tower
10,000 residents in lurch as BSNL had to stop work
7/15/2010 11:44:24 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, July 15: A BSNL tower has warmed up politics in Loran area of Poonch district where National Conference and Congress leaders have entered in war over installation of the same near their own houses which forced the authorities to stop work leaving 10,000 cellular aspirants of the area in lurch.
Sources said after getting nod from the Defence ministry of India, BSNL authorities had started installing towers in Poonch district. Though maximum areas were covered, Loran Valley in Mandi tehsil of the district remained unconnected with the rest of the world. Reason: unnecessary political interference in the BSNL works.
Sources said two years ago, BSNL transported all the machinery of tower to Loran and after choosing a place started installing it. However sources said that the tower becomes a reason of tussle between Congress and National Conference leaders which forced the BSNL to suspend work in Loran.
Even after two years, these two coalition partner leaders are still confronting on the installation site of tower. Congress leader and Vice Chairman of J&K State Gujjar & Bakerwal Advisory Board Choudhary Bashir Ahmed Naz- who is having status of Minister of State wanted to see this tower in front of his house while National Conference leader Shah Mohammad Tantry want it in front of his house. These two leaders are at war not for the benefit of the people but for their personal benefits.
This NC-Congress disagreement over installation of tower in the Loran has irked the locals who are demanding the BSNL service for the last two years and even though all the equipments have been transported, they remained unconnected with the cellular service.
"This is strange that our leaders are fighting for their personal benefit and the residents are suffering a lot due to non availability of cellular service in the area", Mohammad Din a resident of Loran-B Panchayat said adding "These politicians are only interested in their own work and they have nothing to do with the sufferings of the people".
Though both the parties NC and Congress are in coalition at state level, leaders of the parties are not digesting each other in this border district and they are targeting each other over petty issues. "BSNL tower issue is among such various other issues when we are witnessing NC-Congress clash in Poonch district", a resident of Loran said.
Loran has four Panchayats with 10,000 population and a BSNL tower was sufficient to meet the demand of the residents. However they seemed irked with the politicians. On the other hand, Peoples Democratic Party leader and State Secretary of Youth Wing Shamim Ganie said that though he had already taken up the issue with authorities, they are giving the only plea "let Congress and NC leaders decide where the tower has to be installed".
Threatening to launch agitation, Shamim Ganie said that residents are suffering a lot due to non availability of any connectivity in Loran area and politicians are fighting to have more signal of BSNL tower. "Let the tower be installed at third place", Ganie- who is also Beopar Mandal President in Mandi .
"If these leaders will not respect the people, PDP will come on streets", he threatened.
