| Think of the consequences of Guru’s hanging:Omar Abdullah | | |

National Conference President,Mr Omar Abdullah,had a dig at his political foe,the PDP,by ridiculing it on the issue of self-rule.
Talking to reporters at Mufti on Sunday Mr Omar Abdullah said the self-rule idea was simply a plain document.”We do not know what are its contours,”he said adding “If the PDP is serious on the matter it should table it,through a private member’s resoilution in the state legislature,and if it was adopted it could be discussed as one of the solutions to the Kashmir issue provided it has the backing of the people of the state.
Mr Omar Abdullah said “the National Conference idea on restoration of greater autonomy is a written document which has been adopted by the state legislature.”He said that “if self-rule concept is a better tool than the autonomy one we are for testing it for the settlement of the Kashmir issue.””We want Kashmir issue to be resolved so that peace was restored to the state and any idea,besides autonomy,that can settle the dispute we shall support that.”Omar said.
In reply to a question the National Conference President said “we do not say that Mohd.Afzal Guru be not hanged.we do not say that he is not guilty.We only suggest to the Government to think of the consequences of the execution of Guru.” He said if those consequences could be highly alarming there was no harm if the capital punishment was converted into life imprisonment. |
