Use of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purposes increasing | | | early times report JAMMU, July 21: On the one hand, there is acute shortage of domestic cylinders of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in the state, but on the other their use for commercial purpose has been increasing with each passing day in winter capital and its adjoining areas. In the state, many dhabawalas, rehriwalas, sweet shops, and even hotels are using domestic cylinders of almost 14 kilograms in weight. It is pertinent to mention here that government provides huge subsidy for common consumers for their domestic purposes and it is illegal for the commercial establishments to use domestic LPG cylinder. They have to use commercial cylinder weighing almost 19 kilograms and without subsidy. The example of these violations can be seen in Gandhi Nagar area of Jammu where dozens of Rehriwalas selling different types of fast food, use of domestic LPG cylinder in evening under the very nose of the concerned authorities. Concerned authorities including Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) department and Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) pass the buck on each other as far as responsibility of stopping the commercial use was concerned.
