JU finalises calendar for intercollege competitions
Activities to begin with Cross Country on August 26

JAMMU, July 21: In a meeting of the Physical Training Instructors (PTIs) and other sports incharge from affiliated colleges of the University of Jammu (JU), the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education today finalized the annual calendar of activities.
To begin with, the JU shall be hosting the two-day Cross Country (men and women) events from August 26 on the campus. It would be followed by the badminton competitions.
"The annual meeting of the PTIs and other sports incharge of the affiliated colleges that took place today held deliberations and approved the calendar of annual inter-college sports activities of JU," Director Sports and Physical Education, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau told SAN while giving details.
Attended by 26 representatives out of 70 affiliated colleges of JU, the meeting held in a cordial atmosphere and hardly had any argument over already laid down schedule of activities by the Directorate. Chaired by Prof Dhian Singh Bhau, the meeting was also attended by Assistant Director, Dr Sonam Angchok and PTI Campus, Ramesh Sharma.
Meanwhile, the fixture for different events shall be finalized in a meeting of fixture committee slated to be held in the first week of August. The fixture committee is comprised of nominated Principals of city colleges, members of the selection committee and those technical officials. Science College opts for football
Government Gandhi Memorial Science College opted for football event of the inter-college competitions. The college volunteered to host the men's inter-college football tournament. Similarly, the Government Degree College Akhnoor offered to host men and women chess events whereas Degree College Bhaderwah requested for allotment of inter-college cricket tournament. "It was for the first time that a couple of colleges have come forward voluntarily to host the events. This is something encouraging for sports at the college level," said Prof Bhau.
