Bad weather blocks CM, Union minister trip to Poonch | GM Jan remembered on his 3rd death anniversary | | EARLY TIMES REPORT, RAJOURI, July 21: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah cancelled their Poonch and Shadara Sharief trip on Wednesday due to bad weather conditions. Both the leaders had to attend 3rd death anniversary of Ghulam Mohammad Jan former MLA Poonch. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Dr Farooq Abdullah had given their programme to visit Poonch to attend death anniversary of Ghulam Mohammad Jan besides they had scheduled to land at Shadara Sharief Rajouri and pay respect at Dargah of Hazrat Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah but due to bad weather conditions, they could not attend the anniversary function which was being held at Poonch. The function was however attended by thousands of residents including Javed Rana member legislative assembly Mendher, Bashir Wani, District President Rajouri, Liaqet Choudhary senior NC leader, Rahim Dad former MLC, senior NC leaders Fazal Rehman and Sardar Parvaiz Ahmed Khan besides District Poonch Qazi Mohammad Sayeed Beg, Provincial Secretary and all Block Presidents of National Conference. On the occasion, the contribution of GM Jan for the welfare of the poor people of this area was highlighted by various speakers. He was given tribute by acknowledging his efforts for the development and upliftiment of this area. Ajaz Ahmed Jan, Member Legislative Assembly Haveli Poonch had arranged the Programme at his Poonch residence. However there were arrangements for Chief Minister and Union minister in Dak Banglow Poonch. Ajaz Jan said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah had scheduled their visit but heavy rain and cloudy weather did not allow them to fly from Srinagar. "They cancelled the visit at the last stages", Jan said. Meanwhile Duwa Khawani was also held on the occasion for peace to the departed soul. Ghulam Mohammad Jan was one the loyalist National Conference leader who remained MLA from 1996-2001 and 2002-2007. Jan died on July 21, 2007. However the Poonch seat which was vacated after his death was captured by his son Ajaz Ahmed Jan in by-elections and again the seat went to the Ajaz Jan in general elections 2008. Now he has made a strong hold in the area which was evident from the participation of residents in the death anniversary of his father.
