108th Birth Anniversary of Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad celebrated

SRINAGAR, July 21: Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education and Youth Services and Sports, R.S. Chib today said that ' Khalid-i-Kashmir', Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad was a man with foresight, who worked throughout his life for the upliftment of the poor, downtrodden and disadvantaged.
The Minister was addressing 108th Birth Anniversary function of former Prime Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad, organized by Bakshi Memorial Committee here today.
The function was among others attended by Chairman, Gujjar & Bakerwal Board, Bashir Naz, former Minister, A.A. Zargar, eminent writer, G.N. Khayal, Advocate Muzaffar Parray, Dr. Iftikhar Sadiq. senior congress workers, prominent citizens and members of Bakshi dynasty.
Calling late leader a great builder, Chib said that late Bakshi constructed Civil Secretariat complex both at Jammu and Srinagar, Assembly Complex, Government quarters for Darbar move employees besides major bridges, hospitals and schools. Remembering the days of his student life, Chib said that late leader awarded him for being outstanding NCC cadet and met all the cadets most affectionately. Speaking about the book 'Amar Kahani' authored by his elder brother, Th. Balder Singh, Chib said that his brother, who wrote the events of bravery of several national leaders in his book, mentioned the name of Baskhi Ghulam Mohammad prominently for his great achievements for the development of J&K State.
Calling Bakshi as great patriot and decision maker, Chib said that Bakshi sahib never delayed any project instead would take immediate decisions to launch a particular project for its speedy completion.
Chairman, Gujjar and Bakarwal Board , Bashir Naz while addressing the function said that late Bakshi was an architect of Hindu- Muslim unity, who fought for strengthening the bonds of brotherhood of all the communities living in three regions of J&K State. He said that people remember Bakshi sahib as towering personality who worked day and night for the cause of under privileged sections of the society. Naz hoped that the path shown by Bakshi would prove as guiding factor for all the leaders to ensure prosperity and progress of the State. Naz also lauded the efforts of Bakshi Memorial Committee for organizing this function. The function was also addressed by A. A. Zargar, G. N. Khayal, Dr. Iftikhar Sadiq, Advocate Muzaffar Parray and Mohammad Sultan, senior Congress leader of the State.
Later, Chib distributed trophies among eminent personalities in the field of literature and music.
They include, Prof. Prem Singh, Dr. Farida Majid Kak, Pran Nath Taku, Mrs Late G.N. Sheikh and A.A. Zargar. The Bakshi Memorial Committee also honored R.S. Chib with a trophy for his secular character and affectionate attitude. Besides the Committee awarded Aga Ali Safvi posthumously and the trophy was received by his grandson and prominent journalist Aga Syed Safvi.
