Pak violates ceasefire on IB, BSF cop hurt | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 21: Violating ceasefire on the International Border (IB) for the second time in less than 36 hours, the Pak Rangers targetted at least two border outposts in Arnia sub-sector near here today, resulting in injuries to a BSF cop. Official sources said a BSF patrol of 193 Bn was moving along the border fencing at Jabowal in Arnia when it came under heavy fire from the Rangers at about 6.15 am. In the firing, BSF cop Balram Singh, son of Rajeshwar Singh, sustained a bullet injury in his right thigh. He hails from Jharkhand. The members of the patrol party immediately took positions and retaliated. Balram was later evacuated by the jawans to a nearby outpost. After first-aid, he was removed to GMC Hospital where his condition was stated to be out of danger. The Rangers fired at Jabowal and Chawni outposts from their Saidanwali and Harnawali forward posts, the sources added. BSF troops returned the fire at both the places. The exchange of fire between the two sides continued for about two hours. Sources said the Rangers again opened the mouth of their guns at about 10.15 am, which was returned. The intermittent exchange of fire between the two sides continued till afternoon. Casualty, if any, on the Pak side was not immediately known, the sources added. This is the ninth ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in this month. The Rangers fired at the Deora outpost in Pargwal sub-sector of Akhnoor Monday night to facilitate infiltration by militants. There have been repeated incidents of ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) and the IB this month. The Pakistani troops had targeted six Indian posts with mortar, rockets and small arms fire in Poonch sector on July 15 night. They had also fired on six Indian posts along the LoC in Krishna Ghati sub-sector of Poonch on July 15. There was also a ceasefire violation on the IB in R S Pura sub-sector the same day. On July 9, the Rangers had violated ceasefire in Mawa belt of Samba district. On July 6, the Rangers fired at Pindi, Mala Bela and Chak Phagwari border outposts in which a BSF jawan was killed and a villager injured.
