Lack of coordination among developmental agencies | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 23: While executing different developmental works in the city, concerned agencies show total lack of coordination among themselves. Example can be cited of PHE department and telecom companies, where they dug up various roads of the city while laying down their lines without proper consultation with the PWD authorities. Same can be said of the PWD department; it repairs and constructs different roads without caring actual need of other departments. This is also the tale of almost roads of the winter capital. Today if one think about the developmental work, it is just lopsided as far as developmental activities in Jammu are concerned. There are many reasons for this. Development plays a very key role in the reorganization of the entire structure of our society in each sector but it should be done keeping in view the actual need of the society and also of other department as well. But it is unfortunate, when we see the unplanned development resulted because of lack of coordination among different agencies. For example if one agency makes road and footpath for smooth functioning of traffic, the other dug it up on the second day for underground cables/water pipes. Locals alleged that it is very essential that agencies to which the work is entrusted should have a mutual understanding and cooperation while performing these projects for the benefits of general public, so that coming generation may be benefited and funds can be positively used development of the society as a whole. When Executive Engineer of PWD S P Manhas was contacted for his take, refuting the allegations of the lack of the cooperation, he said that one cannot presume the need of the emergency works of the departments. And when ever there was any digging of the roads is done by these agencies, they pay compensation to PWD department. After that PDD repairs the roads. |
