7/23/2010 10:55:26 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, July 23: With two persons having tested positive for Swine Flu, the authorities and the general public have every reason to feel scared.
Both the patients have been hospitalized and their condition is stated to be stable.
Following Union health Ministry Directive to the state to speed up its fight against Swine Flu, the authorities conducted random tests at several places across Kashmir.
Two persons including a soldier were found with symptoms of the deadly disease.
Accordingly blood samples were taken only to sound alarm bells for the second time since 2009.
One of the patients has been identified as Bodh Raj, a soldier posted at Baltal, Sonamarg.
The second patient has been identified as 14-year-old Ayaan. Both have been admitted in Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura.
Dr Shafaqat Khan who is treating the patients said: "Ayaan and his family members have not gone out of the Kashmir for long. How he got the disease is a matter of grave concern for us", he said.
Ayaan's case has been taken as an indication of other positive cases in Kashmir.
The authorities shall perform more tests in the coming days.
It may be recalled that 140 persons had tested positive in the state last year. The deadly disease consumed 4 of them.
The authorities have urged the people to take preventive measures. Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. People have been directed to rush persons with such symptoms to the hospital. Children with these symptoms should not be sent to school. Persons having the above mentioned symptoms have been advised to cover their nose and mouth with a tissue when they cough or sneeze. The tissue has to be disposed off properly after one use.
Washing hands with soap after sneeze and cough are highly recommended. Avoiding contact with eyes and mouth is essential as germs spread this way.
And last but not the least healthy peoples must avoid contact with persons having the above mentioned symptoms.
