| Jammu wins U-14, U-17 football titles | | | early times report
JAMMU, July 23: Jammu district clinched both under-14 and under-17 football titles beating the opponents with ease in the finals of the inter-district divisional level tournament played at GGM Science College ground, here today.
In the under-17 final, Jammu blanked district Samba 5-0 to emerge divisional champion. Giving a flying start to the side, Usman Zahoor scored first goal for Jammu in the 5th minute. It was followed by four more goals netted by Mohd Yaseen, Aryaman Mahajan, R Singh and Reyan Azad. Now, Jammu district will represent division in the inter-division competition to decide the state champion.
Earlier, in the semi-finals, Jammu defeated Poonch in sudden death 4-3 after the match ended in a goalless draw in the stipulated time. Vineet Kumar, Reyan Azad, Varun and Yaseen successfully converted their penalties while Dilabar and Aryman missed. From Poonch, Mohd Imran, Deveshwar and Paramjeet Singh succeeded in their attempts while Aman, Rahul Sharma and Mohd Ikhtar missed the target.
In the second semi-final, Samba trounced district Rajouri 3-1 again in tie-breaker. Earlier, both sides played goalless in the allotted time. Later, in tie-breaker, Rahul Katal, Ajay Sambyal and Bunty Katal were the scorers while Vikas Sambyal missed from winners Samba. From Rajouri, only Sandeep Kumar managed to dodge the goal-keeper while the Tariq Hussain, Mohd Hafiz and Bir Singh missed In all, four districts turned-up for the competition in under-17 category and played directly in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, in under-14 event, Jammu district defeated Poonch by three goals to nil. Abhay Kakkar (5th), Varun Naidu (10th) and Manoj Nath (35th) were the scorers. In under-14 category, only two districts turned-up for the competition. |
