NEW DELHI July 23: Indian Air Force personnel have successfully rescued 27 marooned villagers from Parol Nullah near Kathua, in Jammu, late last evening.
According to a statement issued here today by Ministry of Defence, in response to a request made by the Jammu administration, an IAF Mi-17 from Jammu airbase was launched to evacuate the villagers who were marooned in the wake of a flash flood that hit the area yesterday. Those evacuated included 11 women, a 62-year-old man and a two year old infant.
Earlier, in a similar operation on July 17, IAF Mi-17 operating from Jammu had evacuated eight tourists and three civil defence personnel from a small island on Tawi river, following the spate of floods that occurred in the region.
