Dy CM visits flood prone areas of Pargwal

JAMMU, JULY 25:Reviewing the preparedness of various departments to cater any kind of emergency emerging out of floods in the far flung areas of Pargwal, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today had an extensive tour of the area and inspected the ongoing flood control and irrigation works in the area.
The Deputy Chief Minister was accompanied by Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC), Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Akhnoor, Superintendent of Police and other senior officers of R&B, Revenue, Police and I& FC department.
Tara Chand visited various vulnerable areas like Datyal, Bakore, Indri, Pangali, Sajwal, Pargwal, Hamirpur, Najwal and other adjoining low lying areas.
He instructed police and civil administration to be fully prepared for any kind of emergency and arrange necessary equipments like tents, medicines and other items of vital nature for the affected families. He said that temporary rehabilitation facilities should also be kept ready for meeting any eventuality.
Underscoring the need to expedite pace of flood control works, Tara Chand instructed concerned engineers to be available round the clock at the site of work for supervision and maintaining strict quality control standards. He also gave instructions to the Chief Engineer for maintaining duty roster of the departmental staff and strict action be taken against erring officials. He asked the authorities to immediately repair the crates along the river Chenab and complete the same with in shortest possible time. Tara Chand directed for taking all necessary steps to protect agricultural land from flash floods and called for working in shifts to complete the works on time.
The Deputy Chief Minister while reviewing flood works along the border areas urged for close liaison between civil and defence administration. He said resources should be tapped in and constant monitoring of water level should be ensured, so that people can be evacuated to safer places in case of any emergency.
During the inspection at Channi Najwal, people of the area brought to the notice of Tara Chand the poor work quality of Check dam. Taking serious note he immediately ordered an inquiry into the project by the Chief Engineer, I&FC and said that those found guilty would be booked under law.Later, a deputation called on the Deputy Chief Minister at Datyal and put forth their demands. He issued orders to the irrigation authorities for immediate redressal of their grievances so that tail ends areas also receive the required supply of water for irrigation purposes.
