Students celebrate Diwali, Eid milan

The students and scholars of Jammu University today celebrated the occasion of “Diwali-Eid” milan in University campus this evening. Jugal Kishore Sharma, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj was the chief guest while, Harsh Dev Singh, MLA Ramnagar, Ch. Garu Ram, MLA Suchetgarh, Chaman Lal, MLA Ramban and K P Sharma, Gen Manager Onida were the guest of honour on the occasion. The function was organized to celebrate the festive occasion of Eid and Diwali unitedly to spread the feeling of oneness and brotherhood among the students and scholars of JU.
Speaking on the occasion, Jugal Kishore appreciated the spirit of JU students and scholars for organizing such a function, which was aimed at strengthening the secular ties. He emphasized on the need to learn the basics behind the celebration of all such festivals, as people are ignorant about the philosophies behind these events. He said that all the religions spread only the message of peace and brotherhood but people are utilizing the name of religion for their vested interests. He termed this step of JU students as historic and trendsetter for the future.
While speaking, other dignitaries also appreciated the initiative of JU students and scholars to celebrate “Eid-Diwali”, which is a rare occasion to celebrate. They also showered praises on Vikas Sharma, Anuradha Goswami and Shahnawaz who took the initiative to organize this event in the campus. On the occasion, Rashid Choudhary, JU scholar (Botany deptt.) who received Young Scientist Award-06, was also honoured for receiving this rare honour. Earlier, Anuradha Goswami (Vice-President JURSEA) delivered the welcome address and briefed about the idea behind this function. Later, Vikas Sharma presented the vote of thanks to conclude the function.
