Keep eagle's eye on administration: Sakina Itoo
Distributes papers of old-age pension, cheques, appointment orders in Kulgam

Srinagar, July 25: Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo, Sunday said that it is the fundamental principle of democracy that the people vote and elect the government which in turn gives them transparent and accountable administration.
Stressing for keeping an eagle's eye on the administration, Sakina reiterated that no stone will remain unturned in providing transparent and accountable administration to the people.
The Minister was speaking at an impressive function organized jointly by social welfare, ICDS department and Women's Development Corporation at Town Hall, Kulgam today.
Sakina distributed papers of old age pension among 300 beneficiaries being covered under schemes like Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOPS), Old Age Pension Scheme (OAP) and Physically Challenged Persons (PCP). On the occasion, the Minister also distributed cheques worth Rs. 3 lakh among 30 deserving widows under National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS). Sakina also distributed appointment orders among 20 candidates who have been appointed as Anganwari Workers and Helpers. 12 un-employed women were also given sanction papers for establishing their own income generating units with loan facility of Rs. 8.50 lakh at low interest rates by Women's Development Corporation.
Speaking on the occasion the Minister said, that one and a half year time is not enough to assess the performance of any government, however, during this little period the government has done tremendous job which can be gauged at the ground level.
She said that steps taken by the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah for welfare and development of the State during this period are historical. She enumerated some of the measures which include revoking of AFSPA, return and rehabilitation of youth from PoK, implementation of SRO-43 and restoration of Autonomy for the State.
The Minister directed DDC Kulgam to streamline the working of CAPD and Rural Development Departments in the district, so that people get benefitted by different schemes without facing inconvenience.
Sakina stressed upon all the officers of Social Welfare Department to redouble their efforts and serve the needy at their door steps. She asked them to listen the people patiently especially the old aged, widows and physically challenged persons and provide them solace from the miseries of daily life.
Among others District Development Commissioner, Kulgam, Farooq Ahmed Khan, District officers of Social Welfare ICDS and WDC were also present on the occasion.
