Bring back school children to their class rooms, parents urge state government
7/25/2010 10:45:42 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, JULY 25 : The ongoing unrest in Kashmir valley has taken a heavy toll on the academic curriculum of school going children.
Senior students including university and college going students can still cope with the pressure and have learnt the art of studying away from the class room relying on other tools of teaching but for minor children, who are new in the study environment, the image of an institution and visiting the school is more important than visiting a private tutor and completing the syllabus.
With no signs of normalcy returning on the ground zero it is any bodys' guess for how long small children will have to remain indoors and study at home.
Though the state government authorities tried their level best to restore normalcy after a volatile period of unrest but it again appears that Kashmir is going to witness more bandhs and hartals in the days to come even as back channels have started working out formulas to restore normalcy.
Many Kashmir based news papers are flooded wih notices issued by the various shool managements directing their staff members and the school children to form study groups and help each other till formal class work gets underway but many experts feel that continuous bandh and long break from studies trigger a feeling of disenchantment among the young and feeling of hatred take birth in the young minds.
"The state government should sincerely work out a mechanism to bring back order in the parts of Kashmir valley and restore order otherwise with each passing day the situation on the education front would deteriorate and students would become easy fodder for the fundamentalists to be used as cannon fodder of the ongoing turmoil in the absence of class rooms"Ghulam Qadir a disturbed parent of five year old child said.
"When i see my child wearing uniform every morning and then stay back at home due to closure of schools i feel sad for him". "No amount of private coaching or personnel care at home is going to replace the flavour of class room teaching and every growing child and good student aspire for that kind of an environment which is unfortunately missing here in Kashmir these days due to prevailing situation", Qadir a businessman said.
Few angry parents also came down heavily on the politicians for not caring much about the situation as their own children either study abroad, outside kashmir and have private tutors to ensure they donot miss important lessons but a common man is suffering.
