Young Ritwan lifts State Chess Championship

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 25: Young and upcoming Ritwan Sauntra clinched the men's trophy beating his senior and title holder, Sumit Grover in the deciding sixth round of the State Open Chess Championships played at Hotel Nek, here under the banner of All J&K Chess Association. Though three other competitors secured five points each, still Arvindu was declared third and Abhishek Nayal fourth considering their progressive score. Three other contestants, Ajit Singh, Chetan Gandotra and Pranav Sharma obtained four points each to secure sixth, seventh and eighth positions respectively.
In the meantime, first timer in any competition, Akriti Kotwal emerged as new women's state champion beating the former champion, Aditi Sharma in the third round today. Mehak Bakshi and Sushma Raina bagged two points each to remain at third and fourth place respectively.
In the valedictory function of the two-day championships, general secretary of the Association, Baldev Raj was chief guest, who along with president, Atul Gupta and treasurer gave away winners and runners-up trophies.
