Mirwaiz's appeal to OIC has no justification
7/25/2010 10:49:02 PM

Chairman All Party Hurriyat Conference and Kashmir Mirwaiz,Molvi Umar Farooq, has urged the members of the organisation of Islamic Conference(OIC) to intervene so that the Government was forced to lift restrictions it had imposed on the religious freedom of the muslims in the Kashmir valley. In support of his contention the Mirwaiz has referred to the recent imposition of curfew restrictions which had not allowed large groups of people to offer prayers in the mosques in the valley on Fridays.Well it is not longer a secret that the separatists have developed the art of twisting facts to their advantage. This art they have been fully utilising while highlighting even a minor case of human rights violations by the security forces. Before appealing to the OICmembers for intervention the Maulana should have indulged in self-introspection.Had he done so he should have realised that the separatists and groups of Pakistan trained militants had incited people to
violence while protesting against the death of one youth in police firing. And since June 11 there has been no let up in the protest rallies in which the demonstrators clashed with the police adding fuel to fire that too with a purpose.Had the Maulana given a moments' thought over what went wrong in Kashmir in
recent weeks he would have realised that if the Government imposed curfew restrictions or restricted the movement of people it was done to curb violence and restore order.Had the Maulana and his fellow travellers bothered to analyse the events that took place in the Kashmir valley during the last 21 years they would have,by now, understood that the level of religious freedom enjoyed by not only the muslims but by the members of other communities also in the Kashmir valley has no parallel in any other country in the world.Kashmir has been a cradle of communal amity. It remained an area of free of sectarian clashes and even if some conflict developed between the Shias and the Sunnis it was a breezy affair and not of the type one has been witnessing in Pakistan or in Iraq.It can happen in Kashmir only where muslims would offer prayers on the road stretches in front of the mosques because of heavy rush of devotees. People have seen Moharrum processions
being taken out without any violence.People have seen Janam Ashtami processons being taken out with Muslims displaying respect for the religious sentiments. What then went wrong which has not seen pandits taking out Janam Ashtami processions in Srinagar for the last 20 years and the Government imposing route restrictions for those wishing to take out Moharrum processons. The result has been the machinations of the separatists and above all the outcome of export of terror from Pakistan. And when the Government felt worried over the daily programme of organising s street protests and the call for people to take out long march on Fridays after the prayers the Government had no other alternative but impose curfew restrictions which prevented muslims from visiting mosques on Fridays for offering prayers. These restrictions had been imposed in some towns while people in the villages and other rural belts eperienced no such restrictions..No doubt Delhi has
stopped
giving any importance to the OIC after Islamabad managed to use the platform for launching a campaign against India, it would be better for the OIC members to establish their credibility by giving up anti-india bias. This can be done if the OIC members ignored the Maulana for misleading the OIC and the world. In case it wanted further evidence its members could take up the matter with Delhi and seek a report from the Government.Well people in Kashmir have every right to register their protest against human rights violations by the security forces but there are many ways for do so.Instead of carrying out a peaceful campaign against such violations the separatists incited people to violence. As such these separatists have no reason to blame the state Government for imposing restrictions. In fact the separatists invited such restrictions in a bid to give a bad name to the Government.
