Militants neither out nor down in Kashmir | | | ASHWANI EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 25: The recent attack on a police party at Pattan in Baramulla district of North Kashmir by a youth and yesterday's grenade attack on CRPF at Batmaloo Srinagar has turned all the claims and speculations to rest that the terrorism is out in Kashmir. The attack on SHO Pattan, Fayaz by a youth from a strong crowd of 500 people at Palhalan on Srinagar-Muzaffrabad High Way on July 23 has revealed that Pak backed terrorists are behind the present turmoil in Kashmir Valley who are instigating the youth to stone pelting and people to protest against the Government as well as security forces. The militants who have gone in oblivion for quite some time in Valley have re- grouped again on the directives their mentors across the border who are trying to give another turn to present secessionist movement in Valley. There are reports that the terrorists and secessionist leaders have been directed by their boss in ISI not to indulge in killings for the time being but to create a volatile situation in Valley by resorting to strikes, processions, demonstrations etc to mobilize the international opinion towards Kashmir. This is the cause that the terrorists have preferred to remain in oblivion instead of surfacing on the ground. However to make their presence felt and give a fillip to ongoing movement they have resorted to sudden attacks on police and security forces, the sources said. Sources said not withstanding the claims of the Government that common people are totally disillusioned with the movement in Kashmir and want to get rid of the 20 year long unrest which led to lot of destruction and devastation in the state, the people in the Valley have a soft corner towards the disruptive forces. This can be revealed by the fact that Kashmiris defied the call of Hizbul supremo Syed Sallah-u-Din who is presently in Pakistan occupied Kashmir and had asked Kashmiris to call off the strike. The sources said that had the Kashmiris been fed up with the present about one month long strike ,the Hizbul supremo's word could have become a face saving for them in calling of the present strike and resuming the normal business. This was a high time for the Kashmiris to say good buy to the gun culture which has eaten the vitals of the society during last over 20 years, sources added. Even some opinion makers in Valley are also critical of the role of the Government of Indian and State Government in curbing the terrorism and on going movement. There is no strong political will on the part of the Government to contain terrorism and present secessionist movement in Kashmir, said a retired Professor of the Kashmir University on condition of anonymity. The Government over the years has failed to generate a feeling among the people that it can protect them against the atrocities of the terrorists. What has been the fate of those counter insurgents who revolted against the terrorism and turned their gun back on them, he asked? Most of them were either eliminated by Pak trained terrorists and those who are alive have gone underground fearing threat from them. What has happened to Kukka Parrey alias Jamshed Sherazi, Javed Ahmed Shah and Nabi Azad who worked for elimination of Pak gun from Valley he asked? Supporting his contentions a free launce journalist asked what is the fate of the lieutenants of these counter insurgents? They have run away for their own safety. Moreover reduction of troops on the political pressure without taking the ground realities into consideration in Kashmir and other militancy infested areas of Jammu region was a Himalayan blunder, he added. He said till both State and Central Government will not review its policies and try to build breaches with people, the situation will continue to be topsy-turvy in Valley.
