Ice-Cream factory-a source of nuisance for locals | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 26: The haphazard opening of the industries in Jammu is good as far as eradicating unemployment is concerned but the rapid growth of these factories in urban areas is also reason for concern as it is causing problems for the people besides damage to the environment. There are also dozens of industrial units in the urban areas of the state, particularly in the winter capital of the state allegedly in the connivance with the concerned authorities. In one such case of New Kadbury and Jawala Ice Cream factory in the Mohalla Rajputana near Canal road, Gangyal, concerned authorities have done nothing even after repeated representations from the locals in this case. Locals alleged that this factory was polluting the air and water of the area. The residents of Mohalla Rajputana have even filed complain against the New Kadbury and Jawala Ice Cream Factory on June 12, 2010 to the Deputy commissioner, Jammu and Station House Officer (SHO) Satwari that the factory was spreading pollution in the area and endangering the lives of the locals but even after more than a month, no action against has been taken. In their representations, the residents of the area also said the workers of the factory burnt the redundant tyres of vehicles, polythene and hazardous of smoke, which produces dangerous smoke harmful to health of the inhabitants of the area. Locals also alleged that whenever they approach the factory management, factory management uses abusive language besides terrorizing the people. When contacted the Health Officer JMC, Dr Anwar Choudhary, he stated that he has not received any complaint from the concerned persons in this regard. JMC would take action only after lodging of complaint by the locals. |
