Massive plantation drive launched | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, July 26: With a view to extend more green cover to Udhampur town and its outskirts, the Udhampur Police in collaboration with Forest Department and Civil Defence organisation Udhampur, launched a massive plantation drive in the premises of Govt. College for Women (GCW), Udhampur today. The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur-Reasi range, . Gulzar Singh Slathia inaugurated the drive by planting a sapling of ornamental plant Araucaria species in the premises of GCW, Udhampur, here this morning. Senior Superintendent of Police, Udhampur, Surinder Gupta, Principal Govt. College for Women, Prof. Sadhana Gupta, Deputy Controller Civil Defence, Udhampur, Chief Horticulture Officer, Divisional Forest Officer Social Forestry, Udhampur, Deputy Chief Wardens , college teachers and students took part in the drive. During the drive, as many as over 1000 saplings of different species including fruit plants would be planted to make the college premises more green and environmental friendly. peaking on the occasion, the DIG said that the drive was an initiative in enhancing beauty of the local environment besides educating the people to protect the beautiful environment for sustenance of life on this planet earth. The SSP while speaking on the occasion said that the plantation drive was a step forward to strengthen the community policing by encouraging the different agencies like teachers, students, prominent citizens to be a part of the drive. The Principal GCW in her welcome address lauded the combined efforts of police, forest department and Civil Defence organization for launching such gorgeous campaign in the college campus.
