Dr. Partap new SKAUST -K V-C | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, July 26 :Dr. Tej Partap, an eminent scientist who has till recently been twice the Vice Chancellor of the CSK Himachal Agriculture University, Palampur, has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-K. Dr. Partap, an expert in mountain and cold climate agriculture, did his M. Sc, M. Phil and Doctorate from the Department of Bio-Sciences, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, and was till recently working as the Vice Chancellor of CSK Himachal Agriculture University, Palampur (2001-2004; 2007-2010). He has also served as the Executive Director (2005-06), International Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture (ICCOA) and International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), Kathmandu. He has rendered consultancy services to the National Commission on Farmers, Government of India, to study and prepare sections of the Report of the Commission on Hill Agriculture and Organic Farming sectors. In 2006, he led a team to prepare a chapter on Organic Agriculture in the 11th Five Year Plan document. In 2008-09, he led a team for preparing the Vision Document and Mission 2020 relating to Organic Agriculture in India. Dr. Partap, who took over as the Vice Chancellor of the Himachal Agriculture University, Palampur, in 2001, was, at that time, the youngest person ever to be appointed as VC of a Farm University. He has over 30 years of experience of working in mountain and hilly areas and has experience of leadership in implementation of international research programmes and institutional management. He was awarded Honorary Professorship in Mountain Agriculture by the Tibet Academy of Agriculture and Animal Sciences in 1996 and by the Institute of Geography and Natural Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing in 1995. He has served as Member on the Board of Directors/Governors of International Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture (ICCOA), Global Mountain Forum (elected representative of Asia Pacific Region, Global Secretariat, Kathmandu) and International Centre on Research and Training in Seabuckthorn, Beijing, China. In addition, the Japan-based Asia Productivity Organisation continues to utilize his expertise and consulting services in the farming and livelihood sector, especially hill agriculture and organic farming, since 1987. Dr. Partap has 13 books and monographs to his credit and has edited 11 volumes. He has also presented and published 45 papers and articles in peer reviewed international journals and conferences. He also has rich experience in the management of international projects with multi-country focus. Mr. N. N. Vohra, who is Chancellor SKUAST-K, has, in consultation with Mr. Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister (who is Pro-Chancellor of the University) appointed Dr. Partap from among a panel of 5 persons recommended by a Search Committee headed by Dr. G. S. Kalkat, an eminent Agriculture Scientist, and comprising Dr. S. Ayappan, Director General, ICAR, Prof. Sukhdev Thorat, Chairman, UGC and Mr. Iqbal Khandey, Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production Department, J&K Government. Dr. Partap took over as the Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-K today afternoon.
