| Man murdered by nephew in Poonch | | |

JAMMU, JULY 26: A "perverse" youth murdered his uncle by hitting him on the head with an iron rod in ward No 3 of Poonch on Sunday evening. The dead was identified as Santokh Singh (45), son of Khajoor Singh, and the accused as Roop Singh (30), son of Vakil Singh, both residents of ward No 3, Poonch.
SSP, Poonch, Manmohan Singh said the incident occurred at about 6.30 pm when Santokh and his elder brother Vakil were going home.
He said Roop hit his uncle Santokh twice on the head with a heavy iron rod from behind as a result of which he collapsed on the road. He died while being shifted to Poonch district hospital.
The SSP said Roop was arrested and the weapon of offence recovered from him. He was booked in a murder case. Police sources said Roop seemed to be mentally insane as he had killed and eaten a dog some time back. He had also attacked a milch animal with a sharp edged weapon few days back, the sources added.
Post-mortem was conducted on Santokh's body at the Poonch district hospital mortuary this morning. Later, it was handed over to his family members for last rites.
