| Pahari scholarship: Probe ordered | | |

RAJOURI, July 26: Following Early Times report regarding alleged embezzlement and mismanagement in Pahari students scholarship in Rajouri district, Government has initiated enquiry directing Deputy Commissioner and Chief Education Officer to investigate the matter and report the same to government. Sources said that government has taken strong note of the Early Times story by initiating enquiry into the alleged mismanagement and embezzlement in disbursing Pahari students scholarship. As per sources, Vice Chairman of J&K State Advisory Board for Pahari Speaking People and Former minister Syed Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari has directed District Development Commissioner Rajouri Ghulam Ahmed Khawaja and Chief Education Officer Rajouri Sardar Gurucharan Singh to initiate enquiry into the report and submit the same to the government following which DDC has also taken the matter seriously and has asked CEO to get the detail from concerned officers.
When contacted Vice Chairman of J&K State Advisory Board for Pahari Speaking People Syed Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari said that he has directed DDC and CEO Rajouri to initiate enquiry. He said that this is serious matter and it need to be probed properly. "Those who will found involved in embezzlement will be dealt with iron hands", he said adding that he had managed scholarship for maximum Pahari students in Rajouri Poonch districts and it must be reached all. "I have earlier directed to disburse the scholarship properly and had already warned that if there will be some complaints, the people involved in it will be punished", he added.
When contacted, Chief Education Officer admitted that some amount meant for Pahari students has been returned by Zonal Education Officer Dhendesar area in the government treasury and he is enquiring the whole matter. "I have written to ZEO Dhendesar to give him detail report regarding the Pahari scholarship and reason of returning the amount to the government treasury", CEO said adding that if the amount will be surplus then there is nothing bad in returning the amount but if students will have been denied the scholarship in the area, action will be taken against the officer.
Meanwhile Chief Executive of Jammu & Kashmir Pahari Peoples Movement Shahbaz Khan said that the case is not only in Dhandesar there are various complaints from Thanamandi, Manjakote, Darhal, Budhal and Kalakote area where the students are complaining that they have not received scholarship. Launching an attack on the non-Pahari officers, Khan said that many non-Pahari students have been given scholarship of Pahari students while Paharies have been denied the same. "We came to know from the people that some non-Pahari officers are conspiring against the Pahari students and they are diverting the scholarship to other students", Khan said demanding high level probe in the disbursement of Scholarship of Pahari students in Poonch Rajouri area. "We demand to constitute a commission for enquiring into disbursement of Pahari scholarship in both Rajouri Poonch districts", Khan said while welcoming the decision of Mushtaq Bukhari in ordering enquiry in Dhendesar case.
