BPL ration scam: CB produces challan against eight | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 26: The crime branch (CB) of the state police today produced challan in the court of chief judicial magistrate, Samba, against eight persons, who were involved in the misappropriation of BPL (below poverty line) ration. The accused included Amrik Singh, son of Sampurn Singh, his brother Amarjeet Singh, Surinder Singh, son of Amar Singh, Raj Kumar son of Amar Nath, Vijay Kumar son of Ram Lal, Raman Kumar Gupta, son of Kameshwar Gupta, Mohan Singh, son of Bhajan Singh and Pawan Kumar, son of Shankar Dass. The scam was unearthed after CB sleuths had raided a mill at Samba following inputs that BPL ration, supplied through FCI, was being misappropriated by the Jammu-based FCI officials in connivance with flour mill owners and transporters, causing thereby a huge loss to government exchequer. Police sources said CB also also had inputs that some trucks loaded with BPL ration from FCI godown, Jammu, and earmarked for Kashmir were being unloaded at Hari Rice Mill near Adarsh BEd college, Samba. The CB men raided the mill and found a truck (JK02/9435) being unloaded inside the mill premises. This ration was meant for BPL families in Kupwara, the sources added. During the course of investigation, CB arrested the eight accused and booked them under sections 408, 407, 120-B of RPC read with 3/7/3/8 of EC Act.
