HM ultra killed, associate injured in Kishtwar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 26: A top Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant was killed and his close associate injured in a gunbattle with security forces at Anyar near Marwah in Kishtwar today. A defence spokesman said in a swift and surgical operation, a joint column of police and army killed a dreaded HM militant at Anyar. The slain militant was identified as Mohammad Ramzan, son of Abdul Raz Malik. One AK rifle, its magazines and one handgrenade were recovered from him. The spokesman said Ramzan's close associate Riaz Ahmed, who was wounded in the encounter, managed to flee. A massive operation was on to hunt him down, he added. Ramzan was part of the dreaded Rizwan group of HM. He had long association with HM. He was initially working as HM's over ground worker (OGW) and was instrumental in an attack on an Territorial Army jawan in August 2009. He went underground thereafter and surfaced in March 2010 with a weapon. He was also involved in the murder of SPO Bashir Ahmed at Navapachchi. He along with his associates was responsible for numerous acts of extortion and harassment of locals. The elimination of Ramzan had dealt a severe blow to the Rizwan group at Marwah as he was believed to be gaining prominence among HM cadres. The concerted efforts of security forces in the rugged, treacherous terrain of Marwah had kept the HM cadres on the run, and this success had certainly broken the back of nefarious elements in the area. His killing would definitely provide the much needed succour to locals.
