| PREVENT MUFTI FROM SELLING SELF-RULE IDEA: BJP TO PM | | | Jammu,October 23 The state unit of the BJP has suggested Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to convey to the PDP patron Mufti Mohd Sayeed that during his visit to New York he (Mufti) should not sing songs in praise of self-rule in front of the members of the UN General Assembly. In a statement issued in Jammu on Monday, Vice President of the state Unit and party spokesperson Prof Hari Om said," any delay on the part of the Prime Minister in preventing Mufti Sayeed from raking up the idea of self- rule in the UN general Assembly would encourage separatists in internationlising the Kashmir issue. He said there was need to instruct the Mufti not to sing pro self-rule song inthe UN General Assembly which could weaken the National cause within Jammu and Kashmir. Prof Hari Oms' statement has come in the wake of reports that PDP Patron Mufti Mohd Sayeed planned to brief UN General Assembly members on his concept of self-rule which when implemented could resolve the Kashmir issue. It is in this context that the BJP leader has suggested to the Prime Minister to ensure that the Mufti didn't touch the issue of self-rule which would send wrong signals among the world leaders. Any discussion on self-rule outside India could give an impression that the existing government in Jammu and Kashmir is not the government of the people, by the people and for the people. Prof Hari Om said that the PDP's self-rule slogan had the potential of weakening political and emotional integration of Jammu and Kashmir with India and hence the Mufti needed to be told in clear terms that his visit as head of the unofficial Indian delegation should not be utilised for selling his idea of self-rule to the world leaders.
