| NSA has "weakened" India's case against Pak : BJP | | | New Delhi, Oct 23 National Security Advisor M K Narayanan today came under BJP fire as it accused him of weakening India's case against the ISI by declaring New Delhi does not possibly have "clinching" evidence of the Pakistani secret service's involvement in the Mumbai blasts. Also, senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra insisted that there have been contradictory statements about Pakistan from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister Shivraj Patil.
"While the Prime Minister has called Islamabad a victim of terror, his Defence Minister maintains terror infrastructure is intact in Pakistan. And now, the national security advisor has weakened our stand about the ISI's involvement in the Mumbai train bombings," he said.
His comments came in the wake of Narayanan's remarks in an inteview that India has "pretty good" though not possibly "clinching" evidence of the ISI's involvement in the July 11 explosions in Mumbai.
"Why should he be saying so? We wonder what really he meant by stating India has 'pretty good' but not 'clinching' evidence," Malhotra said.
He, however, welcomed the NSA's remarks that New Delhi would share intelligence with Islamabad under the proposed joint anti-terror mechanism only if it sees a "great deal" of cooperation from the neighbouring country.
"At least, Naryanan has punctured the Prime Minister's tall claims about the joint terror mechanism," Malhotra, whose party has opposed Singh's agreement in this regard with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, said.
