| NC DEMANDS JUDICIAL PROBE INTO YOUTH'S KILLING | | | SRINAGAR ,Oct 23 Notwithstanding a heavy rush for Eid celebrations rage over the killing of a youth in Budgam district at the hands of Army continued with main opposition National Conference demanding a judicial probe into it. For the third consecutive day, the killing of 21 year old boy Mohammad Maqbool of Mohandpora village in Central Kashmir evoked strong protests from various sections of people demanding a judicial probe into the incident. Maqbool, the lone son of his father was killed "in custody by 53 Rashtriya Rifles" on Saturday. After he was picked up by the troops of RR on Friday his body was handed over to the family other day. Police has registered a case under section 302 against RR officials. While the government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident the Army has instituted court of inquiry to investigate the killing. Veteran National Conference leader and leader of opposition in the assembly A R Rather told reporters here his party would declare a "war against coalition government over the issue of human rights violations". Demanding a time bound judicial probe into the killing of the youth, he said "we have lost faith in magisterial inquiries ordered by government so far". Government should issue a white paper on these inquiries and tell the people what are the findings of scores of probes into similar incidents, he said. "It was the Eid gift to the poor villager in Paherpora by the Army to send the home dead body of his lone son" Mr Rather said. He alleged that government was non serious on the issue and had infact failed on all fronts. "The incident defeats the Prime Minister's zelo tolerance promise" he added. He said that incase the violations did not stop the forthcoming session of assembly would be troublesome for the government. NC, he said will not tolerate these violations. He accussed the coalition government of misleading the people with hollow slogans. "PDP's self rule is nothing but a hoax" he said.
