| Governor presents “Shair-e-Kashmir Mahjoor” award to Shameem Azad | | | Srinagar, October 23 At an impressive function held here today in the auditorium of Radio Kashmir, Governor Lt.Gen. (Retd) S. K. Sinha gave away “Shair-e-Kashmir Mahjoor” award to Mrs. Shameem Azad for her extraordinary contribution in the field of literature, culture and music. The function was organized by the Department of Information, Doordarshan Srinagar, Radio Kashmir Srinagar, Mahjoor Foundation, Cultural Academy and Radio Listeners Forum, jointly. While reading out the citation role of Mrs. Shameem Azad since her 9th class student was highlighted adding that Mrs. Azad has received numerous Gold medals, awards and certificates at National and International level and is also recipient of Padamashree Award. Speaking on the occasion, Governor described Mrs. Azad as nightingale of Kashmir and said that she has not only brought laurel to the state but the Nation is proud of her rich contributions in the field of literature and culture. The Director of Information and Public Relation Khawaja farooq Renzu highlighted the role of all departments which organized the function in the field of literature and projecting original Sufiyana culture of Kashmir. The function was attended by a large number of scholars, poets, writers, artists, prominent citizens and lovers of literature and music. The speakers on the occasion appreciated Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad for launching Kashmiri language in schools from Ist primary. Later, at another function Mayor Srinagar Municipal corporation Mr. Ghulam Mustafa and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Mr. Basharat Ahmad renamed Tankipora road as Mehjoor Road which has been approved by the Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad. |
