SURANKOT, July 31: Sector Rashtriya Rifles under the aegis of Counter Insurgency Force (Romeo) organised an ex-servicemen's rally here today for the retired security personnel of Surankot Tehsil.
The rally, attended by a large number of ex-servicemen, was aimed to keep the spirit of ex-servicemen alive and the bond intact with the serving soldiers of the Indian Army, CRPF, BSF and Police.
Sector Commander Rashtriya Rifles inaugurated the rally, interacted with the ex-servicemen and assured them all possible assistance from the Army.
He explained the importance of Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) to the gathering and felicitated those women whose husbands have made supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
Officer-in-Charge of Zila Sainik Welfare Board, Poonch apprised the veterans about welfare schemes introduced by the Central and State government and various welfare activities being undertaken by the Zila Sainik Welfare Board.
He also assured them that all necessary assistance would be provided to mitigate the difficulties and problems faced by the ex-servicemen.
Information kiosks were established by various departments of the State government to assist the ex-servicemen in gaining information on their resettlement into civilian set up. These included help desks on banking services, insurance schemes, loans for higher education, small scale enterprises, crop diversification, cultivation of high yielding special varieties of crops, mushroom cultivation and fish farming.
Medical staff educated the gathering on health and hygiene related issues. The attendees displayed enthusiasm and appreciated the efforts of the Army to reach out to them in remote areas. They also complimented the organisers for extending a helping hand in redressal of their grievances by projecting their genuine problems with functionaries of civil administration at appropriate levels.
