Yet another goodwill gesture extended by Army
Launches plantation drive in Rajouri-Poonch, fix target of planting 2.50 plants

Rajouri, July 31: As the world is facing global warming and various nations, including India are striving hard for cutting down carbon emission, Army in its endevour to preserve nature have started plantation drive in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch today. Army has fixed target of planting 2.50 lakh in the coming days.
The aim of the programme is to spread awareness on environmental protection and to encourage civilian, army personal and children to understand the relevance of protecting and sustaining a greener environment.
It is pertinent to mention here that army is not only guarding the borders and protecting the people from the anti-national elements, they are coming forward to build infrastructure for public use and now has started a new mission of environment.
Later, an aforestation drive culminated in a grand function which was presided over by Major General Om Parkash, General Officer in Command 25 Infantry Division at Rane Hawaie Patti, Rajouri and attended by local residents, children and officers of the administration.
GoC along with the children planted saplings to mark the occasion. This was followed by programme on environment by the students of Army Goodwill Public School Rajouri.
Addressing the gathering, Major General Om Parkash said that though army has been given job of protecting the natives and restricting anti-national elements, they are also coming forward to save nature.
Showing concern, Major General said that army in all the areas today planted tree from Line of Control in Poonch to Akhnoor and it was a special drive today. He said that army will continue this drive till a target of planting 2.50 saplings are not achieved. "We will not stop plantation after that and will continue to preserve nature and plant more and more trees", he said adding that army has already launched a campaign to aware public regarding preservation of nature and its advantage.
Meanwhile residents and district administration lauded the role of army in this regard. Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, GA Khawaja said that army must be apperciated for this attempt.
