SHGs suffer losses due to delay in their grading | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 31: A "deliberate" delay in measuring the standards of self help groups (SHGs) in Reasi has resulted in losses to their operators. SHGs would not get loans from banks till the process of their grading was completed by authorities, official sources said. The cases of 14 SHGs were recommended to banks for sanctioning of loan, but the process of measuring their level, a pre-requisite for the purpose, was stopped midway due to "unknown" reasons. Some of these SHGs included Shri Ganesh of Mari panchyat, Shri Krishna of Aril Hansali and Jai Bhawani Maa of Manoon panchayat. While Shri Ganesh falls under ED Bank, Reasi, Shri Krishna and Jai Bhawani Maa fall under SBI, Katra, and OBC, Katra, respectively. Block Development Officer (BDO) H K Bhat said the process upto BDO level had been completed and it was now upto bankers and project officer to classify SHGs. Before the loan was disbursed to them, SHGs were to be given grade 1 and 2, the sources added. Assistant commissioner development (ACD), Reasi, Rakesh Badyal said since the bankers had not called these groups, he had asked their operators to be present in his office for their meeting woth bankers. Bansi Lal Sharma, who heads the groups, said they had visited ACD's office several times, but no one there had bothered to do the needful. It is important to mention here that BDO, in his letter bearing No R/2010-11/434-37 dated 19-05-2010, has said that necessary training may also be provided to the selected groups for skill development.
