| Jammu lifts U-16 cricket trophy | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, July 31: Jammu district won under-16 cricket tournament beating district Reasi by 35 runs in the final played today at Subash Stadium, here under the banner of Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS). Earlier, batting first, after Reasi won the toss and opted to field, Jammu set a target of 97 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs, which, in reply, Reasi could not chase and bowled out for 61 runs. Ateev Saini was top scorer with 29 runs from Jammu. From Reasi, Baldev took two wickets, followed by Vipin, Ashok and Sharad, who shared one each. Later, chasing the target, Reasi bowled out for 61 runs. Baldev remained top scorer with 15 runs. Hisam Salim was most successful bowler from Jammu with four wickets haul while Harshid, Prajwal and Rishav took one each. For his match winning innings, Hashim Salim was declared man of the match while Gagandeep, an under-14 cricketer, was felicitated for being youngest in the tournament. Gagandeep is a 5th standard student and performed well in the competition. Principal Government Degree College Udhampur, Dr Nutan Kumar Kalsotra was chief guest while Assistant Director DYSS, Ashok Kumar was guest of honour. Both the special guests gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. During the valedictory function, the organizers also felicitated two veteran volleyball players of the district, Pardeep Chopra and Raj Guru.
