BJP takes tough stance against Govt, asks Cong to come out from coalition | HimalayanFeatures | |
Ashwani JAMMU, July 31: Expressing its serious concern over the deteriorating situation in Kashmir Valley and failure of the Government to control the situation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to take a tough stance against the coalition Government in the state. The Party which during the recently held all parties meeting had supported the Omar Abdullah Government and did not support its sacking at this juncture has now changed its stance by demanding its ouster. According to sources the Party has been under constant pressure from Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (RSS) to change its stand against the Omar Abdullah Government in view of the deteriorating law and order situation in Kashmir Valley where the secessionist elements rule the roost. The RSS the sources said was not happy with the recent stand taken by the Party in all Party meet at Srinagar as Party came to a severe criticism from a cross section of people across the tunnel. The RSS has made it clear to the Party to act decisively and perform a role of a healthy opposition which it is supposed to do and refrain from bailing out Omar Abdullah Government which has failed miserably in delivering the goods and come to the expectations to the peace loving and nationalist people in the state. Soon after the RSS send its communiqué to BJP it called an emergency meeting of its senior office bearers, MLAs, district and tehsil presidents here today to discuss Kashmir situation. The Party passed a resolution in which it took the Congress which is the alliance partner of the NC to task for its wrong policies on Kashmir. Instead of demanding the resignation of Omar Abdullah Government or demanding its dismissal the BJP has asked the Congress to come out of coalition in the larger interests of the nation. The Party blamed the Congress for maintaining a stoic silence on Kashmir situation and the demand of greater autonomy made by NC, the sources said. Making a dig at Congress Party the BJP was also critical of its functioning saying that to remain in power Congress made a honeymoon with both PDP and NC. The Party neither opposed the double currency, and porous border demand of PDP not spoke against the NC’s demand of greater autonomy. The BJP urged the Party that instead looking like a mute spectator to the situation in Kashmir it should withdraw support to Omar Abdullah led Government in the state and pave way for imposition of Governor’s rule to contain the anti national and secessionist elements in the state. The sources said the BJP has also accused the Congress of installing an inexperienced Chief Minister in the state to settle its scores and have a dominating role in the coalition which proved tantamount to the interests of the state. The sources said the BJP, leadership said congress showed its willingness to support the coalition only after there was an assurance from the NC that junior Abdullah will be the Legislative Party leader and not Dr Farooq Abdullah. The BJP which showed lot of concern over the deteriorating situation in Kashmir Valley has also urged the Central Government to act decisively by giving free hand to security forces in curbing the violence.
