EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 31: Life without friends means living life in the world of isolation. For friends not only bring love but also build a comfort zone around us. Friends remain close through good times and in times of crisis. It won't be any exaggeration to say that true friendship brightens and enriches our lives. Friends remain friends throughout the year but come August a kind of euphoria surrounds the air about friendship. August 1 celebrated as the International Friendship Day is the time to reaffirm our strong bonds of friendship. The day is celebrated to honour the true spirit of friendship. It gives us an opportunity to show our concern as also the appreciation to friends for their love and care.
They say age should not matter unless you are a cheese. And youngsters today are sure following this advice, when it comes to friendship. As their mantra for dosti and yaari sets itself free from the marked territory of boy and girl notion and young and old fixation. Inspired by the Kajol- Shahrukh buddydom in KKHH and stirred by 'ek choti si friendship', between Tabu and Big B in Cheeni Kum, the message is clear: Friendship is a bond too strong to follow any rules or regulations, the only thing that matters here is, emotional quotient.
A friend is like a colorful of rain. He doesn't stop till he has given his joys and pleasures to you. A lot has been said about friendship. But still one feels that something has been left unsaid. Meeting and talking to varied age groups was an interesting and revealing experience. Love can end, friendship never ends According to Suhani Mishra if we look at nature each element seeks a friend, Sun the Earth, and earth the Moon: Clouds cling to skies and move with the winds sway the trees and creepers clasp the reassuring bark. Similarly human beings are cast in the same mould, always in need of lasting ties of friendship.
"Physical presence of a loved-one doesn't matter. What matters is heart-to-heart sharing. A true friend acts like a mirror which can show you your true face…….. Friendship is deeper than love relationships…..We can hate those tomorrow whom we love today. But the one who is a true friend can never become an enemy. If a friend becomes an enemy, then one can be sure that there was no friendship in the first place" , comments Shivani a student from class 12th.
Friendship has been there since time immemorial. Can anyone forget the great friendship of Lord Krishna and Sudama? However, these days everything is commercialised as companies bring out cards and every year, the format and designs of cards change to lure customers, says Sanjay a teachers by profession.
Age too takes a backseat in this present-day friendship scenario, and you can very well find a friend in your mother, father or grandpa next door. Shares Ragini Gupta, an engineering student. "I found a friend in my 50- year-old neighbour, who lives with her husband." For Ragini, it started as a student-teacher relation and the USP of their friendship now is the equation between the two, which Ragini describes as dynamic. "She is a constant source of positive energy in my life…. We go out for coffee or a movie whenever we get time But many dismiss the idea of expressing friendship through cards" Wong, a businessman, says, "I will never send a card as we friends know that we are there during adversity. We are five school friends and presently in our thirties and yet our friendship has grown, and we are confident that whether we meet or not, but in times of need we would always be there. We do not require anything to show our great bond."
"Is there anything like friendship these days? I have been betrayed by so-called friends both in my business and personal life," said a bitter Roshan Lal. He said his friend with whom he had started business duped him, and now he is in dire straits.
