Environmentalist on terrorists hit list deprived of security cover

JAMMU, July 31: A well known social activist and environmentalist from Doda district, Shashi Kumar Kesri is unable to visit his native village Krantipuram Amora in Chatroo tehsil of Doda district after the authorities withdrew his security and PSO.
Kesri who has been brain behind plantation of about 2 lakh trees across the Jammu division from Kishtwar to Kathua has been in the hit list of terrorists as he took cudnles with forest smugglers who in connivance with anti social elements were looking the green gold of the state. Kesri a social activist of par excellence has bagged awards from state government and other social organisations for his social work and service to the humanity. He is also the recipient of Republic Day award on January 26 last year.
Besides his name had been recommended by the Divisional Commissioner Jammu for gold medal for his social services to the state in the year 2002. Having a very good track record of social service and public life, Kesri who was on the threat of terrorists was provided security by the government for his and his families security but this year on July 1, the authorities in Doda district withdrew his security for unknown reasons. Kesri took the issue with higher ups in the government including state government N.N. Vohra. Though Governor sought a report from Divisional Commissioner Jammu the issue and Divisional Commissioner forwarded the same to SSP Doda for report, but till date, the police authorities in Doda have failed to submit the report putting the life of Kesri and his family to grave risk.
The Divisional Commissioner in his letter to the SSP Doda has said the Governor's Sectt: J&K has desired the information/report in respect of withdrawal of security cover/PSOs from Shashi Kumar Kesri resident of Krantipuram, Doda by 1st July, 2010. In this context, I am directed to request to kindly furnish a comprehensive report in the matter to Governor's Sectt: J&K with a copy to this office by or before 1st July, 2010 positively. This is also in reference to this office letter no 301/1003/1088. Kesri has been on dharna in front of Div Commissioner’s office at Jammu since Feb, 25 2010 in protest against the withdrawal of security but to no avail .
It may not be out of place to mention that Kesri also lost his elder son who was an SPO in a counter insurgency operation in Doda district. Kesri is unable to see his family members and look after his orchards as he is on the hitlist of terrorists
