SPEAK India initiates anti-leather movement | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Kathua, August 1: SPEAK India initiated anti-leather production movement under the aegis of To Save Animal, to Save Environment, by holding a peaceful march with written slogans to save animal and save the environment of the planet at and around Mukharji Chowk, Kathua. The director of the organization Suresh Kumar led the march, and expressed the urge of the organization to stop the production and use of leather products. He said it was the main and fundamental cause of illegal bovine trade, which hurts the sentiments of Hindu community. He said that the organization was not against all out use of leather products; it was against untimely and forcible killing of the animas to obtain leather. It the practice continues it would bring animals' species to the verge of extinction, which in turn, can cause irreparable damage to the eco system. Hides of animals dying natural death could be used for leather products. He further said that the organization would organize seminars and other programmes to bring awareness to the people about the rights of animals.
