| ARMY ASSISTS IN EXTRICATION OF CORPSES AT UDHAMPUR | | | Udhampur, Jul 26, 2006
On 24 Jul 2006 at approx 2.30 pm three men were washed away in flash floods that struck the Birthund Khad Nala near Krimichi Village, Udhampur. The army was requisitioned to recover the bodies by civil administration at about 5.30 pm. Two bodies of Shantu aged 23 years and Shaklesh Ali aged 23 years were recovered by the villagers by 4 pm. Rescue team under the leadership of Col Joy K, CO 3 Engineer Regiment searched for the body of the third person till evening, but it could not be found. The site was also visited by Brig KK Chopra, Cdr 71 Sub Area. The search continued in the early morning of 25 Jul and the body of Labdeh aged 62 years was recovered at about 7 pm, 2 kilometer down stream from the site of incident. The body was handed over to the relatives of the deceased by the Army personnel about 8.15 am.
The timely response and initiative displayed by Armed Forces personnel was appreciated by local populace.
