`K’ issue dominate public darbar at Poonch

Rajouri, Aug 3:Though there was public darbar of district officers and elected representatives with the residents at Mandi area in Poonch to review the situation prior to Ramadhan, Independence Day and Budha Amarnath Yatra, the unrest in Kashmir Valley dominated all other issues in the darbar where some residents showed their anger over government of for alleged mishandling of the situation.
Sources told here that Member Legislative Assembly Poonch Ajaz Jan, District Development Commissioner, Poonch, Kuldeep Raj Khajuria along with Senior Superintendent of Police Manmohan Singh and other district and tehsil level officers hold meeting with the residents of Mandi area in Poonch district to review the situation of the area. The agenda of the meeting according to sources was to take the stock of arrangements of holy month Ramadhan, Independence Day celebrations and Shri Budha Amarnath Ji Yatra and situation arisen after heavy rainfall in the area.
Though these issues also figured in the meet, many speakers raised issue of unrest in the Kashmir Valley.
Speaking in the darbar, State Secretary of Youth Peoples Democratic Party Shamim Ganie reportedly expressed his anguish over the situation of Kashmir Valley and said that if the situation remains same in Valley, it can also affect the normal life in this border district.
He has also said that they will not tolerate human rights violation and are planning to throng streets if the killings of civilians are not stopped by the government forces. “I think government has failed to handle the situation and if the situation would have been handled, there would have been no loss of the lives of civilians”, he said.
Though Ganie also highlighted various other issues related to Independence Day, Budha Amarnath Yatra and Ramadhan and impact of rainfall. However, the situation of valley remained dominated in the meeting. Besides Ganie, some other participants also raised the issue and threatened to throng streets if the HR violations are not stopped in the Valley.
When contacted, Deputy Commissioner, Poonch, Kuldeep Raj Khajuria said that though some people had raised the issue of unrest in Valley but the meeting was not held to discuss Kashmir. “We were there to discuss development not unrest in Kashmir,’’ DDC said, adding, the residents appreciated the role of administration and particularly Tehsildar and SHO Mandi for their cooperation with the residents.
Deputy Commissioner said that he has constituted various committees to access the loss during recent rainfall.
“We also discuss arrangements of Budha Amarnath Yatra and sough peoples cooperation in successful Yatra in the area which is going to initiate on August 12,’’ he said, adding, arrangements of Ramadhan and Independence day were also discussed with the people.
