| Lt Gen. inaugurate ASCON phase III | | |
JAMMU | OCT 23 `The Information Warriors' of the 16 Corps achieved another land mark in the field of Military Communication, when Lt Gen, TK Sapru, general officer commanding 16 Corps, inaugurated ASCON phase III Node at Sundarbani and also-inaugurated Nodes at DKG and Patnitop. Improving of communication for the soldiers deployed in mountainous terrain and dense forests has always been a big challenge for the Indian Army. It is a quantum leap in the direction of communication for these forces combating insurgency in the forward most areas in remotest and inaccessible terrain. This project has enhanced stragetic communication capability which will provide increased and assured connectivity with higher network availability thus enhancing command, control and operational efficiency of the armed forces deployed in this region. ASCON Phase III is a paradigm shift from the obsolete voice centric technology to voice, data and video converged state-of -the-art technology. The project was conceived to meet the communication challenges in a 'Digitised Battle Field'. Appreciating the achievement, Lt Gen Sapru, highlighted that Army has been keeping pace in the communication field, in consonance with ongoing revolution in Military Affairs (RMA). He also conveyed his admiration to all ranks for their unflinching dedication and outstanding professionalism for this world class information infrastructure.
