JKNPP reacts angrily reacts to withdrawal of security | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU , Aug 5: Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party expressed grave concern over the decision of Omar Abdullah government to withdraw security cover of the leaders of the Panthers Party in the state. Addressing media persons, State General Secretary and Spokesman of the party Advocate Hari Chand Jalmeria said that the government took this decision to discourage the party from carrying on its political activities in the state which is not to the liking of the coalition government. Panthers party has been demanding the dismissal of Omar government and imposition of Governor’s rule for a brief period as the present coalition has failed to provide good and transparent governance in the state which has resulted into loss of pubic support to it. Panthers party had not attended the All Parties meeting called by the Chief Minister, who thus, in vengeance decided to withdraw security cover of its leaders to discourage the party from carrying on its activities in various militancy prone areas of the state. Jalmeria said that Jammu and Kashmir is not a partisan issue of Congress and National Conference but is a national issue. All political parties need to be encouraged to strengthen the democratic process in the state and for that necessary security coverage is required. By withdrawing the security of the leaders of Panthers party, the government is acting against national interest as well as against national integration. Panthers party is the only party in the state which has wide acceptability in the entire state and is carrying on maximum political activity. It appears that the coalition government does not want democratic process to survive and hence stifling of the opposition. This is discriminatory as well as against the democratic norms. He appealed to the Prime Minister to immediately direct the state government to provide security cover to the leaders of Panthers Party. It is worthwhile to mention here the Union Home Ministry on 26th July 2006 on the direction of the Prime Minister, had directed the J&K state government to provide adequate security to the office bearers and workers of the Panthers Party which stands ignored by the state government.
